Preserving Memory: World Day for Audiovisual Heritage at China Film Archive.
Preserving film archives and passing on cinematic heritage is the noble mission of the China Film Archive.
This year, we received a generous donation from the family of Qian Xiaozhang and Zhang Jianzhen — pioneering figures in the founding of New China’s film industry. The collection includes photo albums, manuscripts, letters, and audiovisual materials. Beyond their personal significance, these items serve as precious artistic records that bear witness to the journey of Chinese cinema through times of war, forming an essential part of our nation’s collective cultural memory.
To mark this year’s World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, we will host the event “A Partnership Through Flames: The Qian Xiaozhang and Zhang Jianzhen Film Collection Donation Ceremony,” alongside screenings in Beijing and Suzhou of Homesick (1935) — Mr. Qian Xiaozhang’s first edited film. Directed by Shen Xiling and produced by Mingxing Film Company, the film weaves a rich, fluid narrative centered on the War of Resistance, calling upon young people to dedicate themselves to the cause of patriotism — a rare treat to see on the big screen today.
All attendees will receive a complimentary commemorative postcard.
